The Genetic Genie Is Out Of The Bottle

What was once science fiction is rapidly becoming science fact. The danger of human genetic engineering that I warn about in IMMORTAL FEAR: A Medical Thriller is shockingly possible today. I’ve received many great reviews for IMMORTAL FEAR, but some critics call the science far fetched. However, the three-year-old CRISPR technique for building a complete human genome has now been officially approved. Projects are underway at this moment to create a new human genome from scratch. It’s no longer a matter of “what if,” but only a matter of when. The question “what if” forms the basis for all science fiction, but “When” is a prescription for cataclysmic change.

The technology and the desire to build a human being from scratch, from the basic chemical components, will in the near future produce a “designer” human. Shortly after this milestone is achieved, the game will shift to creating a human that is faster, better, stronger, and smarter than anything ever created naturally. Will these GMO beings be any less “human” than their “organic” counterparts? Will GMO humans become a new superior race, creating conflict with their “organic” predecessors? Or is the creation of human life just the next phase of evolution? Perhaps this was destiny of the human race all along, and the goal of medical science, to master control of life itself.
